NON-ACCEDITED SHORT COURSES @ TAFE QLD

  • Beginner Wheelthrowing

    5:30pm - 8:30pm

    Monday and Thursday (10 week block)

    introduction to wheel throwing is suitable for beginners who have an interest in wheel-thrown work, no previous experience is necessary.

    The class will focus on developing the basic techniques of wheel throwing: centering clay, throwing tall cylinders, cups, bowls, turning and basic glazing.

    The fee includes the glazing and firing of the pottery pieces you produce in class. This ten week course is delivered face-to-face by experienced potter Olivia Azzopardi.

  • INTERMEDIATE WHEELTHROWING

    5:30pm - 8:30pm

    Monday (10 week block)

    Intermediate wheel throwing is suitable for students with a sound basic knowledge of wheel work, for example: capable of throwing tall cylinders, bowls and cups.

    This course will focus on plates/platters, lidded vessels, assembled vessels and the blending of hand building with wheel throwing. Students can explore Raku firing, differing finish techniques, firing temperatures and glazing processes. Course is delivered by experienced potter and teacher.

  • GLAZE TECHNOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY

    This non-accredited course provides training in glaze technology for beginner and intermediate students. It provides a basic understanding of ceramic glaze fundamentals for studio potters and ceramicists wanting to approach glazing from a theoretical point of view focusing on the chemistry of glaze. For this short course, you will be under the tutelage of well-known Cairns ceramicist, Olivia Azzopardi.

  • Introduction to Hand Techniques

    5:30 - 8:30pm

    Monday (10 week block)

    this opportunity to get your hands dirty and work with a beautiful tactile medium. Learn the skills you need to transform your imaginings into 3 dimensional reality.

    Over the course you will be introduced to basic and versatile hand-building skills, including pinch and coil techniques, which can be used to create a vast range of ceramic forms, from functional vessels to sculptural forms.

    This course is open to all levels of skill and experience. Those new to working with clay will fall in love with with the playfulness and versatility of hand-building. Those with previous experience will have their skills expanded and their creative passion for ceramics renewed. All glazes and firings are included in the course price, clay can be purchased on campus.
